Church at the YMCA!

We are currently experiencing building issues. One of the support columns for an arch in our vaulted sanctuary ceiling has dropped four inches. Because the column supports an arch holding the vault, our entire sanctuary ceiling has become unsafe for occupancy.

Despite our sadness at temporarily moving out of our sanctuary, God has blessed us with a generous space hosted by the Randolph County YMCA! We are excited to "do church differently!" Come and join us Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m.!

Via Salutis

Happy Easter everyone!

This Easter season we are talking about John Wesley's Via Salutis...The Way of Salvation! Why is this so important?

Well, Via Salutis, Salvation, Grace, etc. are all fancy words for our relationship with God. We believe that our relationship with God is the most important priority in our lives, so we are spending some time after Easter focusing on where we stand with God.

Come join us!

5/1 - God & Us: Prevenient Grace

5/8 - Turned: Repentance

5/15 - Clean: Justifying Grace

5/22 - Chiseled: Sanctifying Grace

5/29 - Home: Salvation's Goal

40 For 40

Ash Wednesday is the beginning of Lent, a traditional time of fasting. However, in Isaiah 58, God suggests a different kind of fasting...

Instead of not eating for one day, God asked people to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, bring justice to those mistreated, to lighten the load of their neighbor..This is the fast that God wants!

For the next 40 days of Lent, we are encouraging everyone to offer 40 minutes of their time each day to serving others. We invite you to join us in this different kind of fast...40 For 40!

Let's prepare our hearts for the celebration of Christ's Resurrection by giving 40 For 40!

Ash Wednesday Services

Wednesday, March 9th @ 7 p.m. at Winchester First UMC.
Come join us!!!!

Winchester First UMC and Winchester First Presbyterian Church will be gathering together to celebrate Ash Wednesday.

What is Ash Wednesday?
Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent, the forty days (not counting Sundays) before Easter. Traditionally, Lent is a time of preparation and fasting for the holiest of Christian days, Resurrection Sunday, or Easter.

How do you celebrate Ash Wednesday?
It is admittedly a different kind of day. Ash Wednesday is a day when we think about our frailties and mortality (aka, our sin and our death). During the worship service, worshipers may come forward for the sign of the cross to be made on their heads with ashes.

Why do you make a cross with ashes?
The ashes represent our death as spoken in the ancient Liturgy: Remember, mortal, from dust you came to dust you shall return. They also represent our humility. Putting ashes on your head is another ancient way of vividly saying, "I'm sorry." Annointed in humility and mortality, the ashes are shaped in the form of the Cross to remind us of the hope we find in Christ. In his death, we find forgiveness. In his resurrection, we find new life.
